Following is a summary of Division I news from the week of February 23-27.

•         Iowa’s Jane Meyer was selected to chair the Women’s Basketball Committee. Meyer, senior associate athletics director with the Hawkeyes, will begin her term September 1.

•         Several schools announced sport-sponsorship reductions recently, including Vermont, Northern Iowa and George Washington. All three schools blamed the economic downturn for the cuts. However, Valparaiso announced the addition of three teams.

•         Minnesota and Mercyhurst will host the Women’s Frozen Four in 2010 and 2011, respectively. The 2011 event will be the first Women’s Frozen Four in Pennsylvania.

•         Jim Calhoun won his 800th game this week, bringing him into an exclusive club that includes Dean Smith, Bob Knight and Jim Phelan.

•         The Administration Cabinet approved a series of appointments to Division I and Association-wide committees.
