The following is a summary of Division I news from the week of October 20-24.

• The Division I Legislative Council reviewed and discussed legislation in the 2008-09 cycle at its October 20-21 meeting. The group met for the first time in the reorganized governance structure, offering preliminary positions on some proposals and providing comments on others.

• The Big West Conference expanded its deal with ESPN for five years, including 12 national telecasts of men’s basketball and other conference contests.

• Mississippi State shared plans to promote breast cancer research on the football field, including helmet decals, a field stencil and testimonials from survivors. The Bulldogs will show their support November 1 against Kentucky.

• Meanwhile, the Murray State volleyball team will raise money for brain cancer research. The team was inspired by the wife of coach David Schwepker, diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2004.
