Inspired by the support given the wife of head coach David Schwepker, Murray State’s volleyball team will raise funds for the National Brain Tumor Society.

Kendra Schwepker was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2004, and the local community rallied around the family, providing financial and other assistance. The Racers want to make sure other families get the same support, so they are seeking donations for brain-tumor research and support services for families touched by brain cancer.

The team is seeking donations per attack attempt recorded by both teams at their final two home matches in 2008. Donations for “Swinging to Eliminate Cancer” also can be made online at www.firstgiving.com/MSUVolleyball.

“The funds these athletes raise will have a real impact on the lives of patients,” said Mike Logsdon of the National Brain Tumor Society. “Whether it is through our patient help line, our financial assistance program or through our research funding, these students are changing lives.”
