The NCAA News

The following is a summary of Division I news from the week of April 13-17.

•         South Dakota accepted an invitation to join the Summit League, with full eligibility in the conference set for 2012-13. The Coyotes are in the midst of a transition to Division I.

•         Southern Mississippi’s Megan Hill was intentionally walked in 10 consecutive plate appearances, a Division I record. Hill’s streak began after she hit a solo home run and then a two-run, bases-loaded single in the first game of a three-game series against Central Florida.

•         The Legislative Council will meet April 20 to vote on the proposals remaining in the 2008-09 legislative cycle, including those modifying the baseball season and changing the date by which a men’s basketball student-athlete must remove his name from the professional draft to remain eligible.

•         Boston U. won the men’s ice hockey championship in dramatic fashion, finding the net twice in the final minute to force overtime and scoring a theatrical goal for the victory.
