The following is a summary of Division I news from the week of December 8-12.
• North Carolina won the Women’s College Cup, a feat the Tar Heels have accomplished 19 times. The team defeated Notre Dame 2-1 December 7, with both goals scored by Casey Nogueira.
• The Big South Conference affirmed its commitment to fiscal responsibility. In addition to several cost-saving practices already in place, the conference will institute other measures designed to ease the financial burden on member institutions. The conference also moved to a uniform schedule for men’s basketball league play.
• The Championships/Sport Management Cabinet agreed to extend the mileage-limitation threshold used for fall championships to winter and spring postseason events as well, mitigating travel expense challenges.
• A new video explaining the awarding of athletically related mid-year financial aid is available.
