Westfield State promoted John Evans from assistant to head men’s soccer coach. Evans has served as the program’s top assistant since 2005. He takes over for Matt Noyes, who resigned after seven seasons at the helm.

Other transactions

Athletics directors – Chicago State appointed Dan Schumacher as its new director of athletics. Schumacher was previously employed at Lewis. He takes over for Sonja Clayton-Pedersen, who held the role in an interim capacity for 14 months.

Senior woman administrators – Wayne State (Michigan) designated Candice Turner as its senior woman administrator. Turner has been with the institution since 2008 as academic coordinator.

Coaches

Baseball – Sean McNally resigned from his role as Duke’s head baseball coach. McNally held the position since the 2006 season. Edwin Thompson will serve as the interim coach.

Men’s basketball assistants – Illinois State hired Torrey Ward as an assistant men’s basketball coach. Ward spent last season coaching in China, where he played professionally, and coached at Ole Miss and Jacksonville State before that … Isaac Chew is now an assistant men’s basketball coach at Marquette. Chew spent last season at Missouri and had been on Illinois’ staff since mid-April.

Women’s basketball assistants – George Mason added Tiffany Gwynn as an assistant women’s basketball coach. Gwynn was an assistant at UNC Asheville for the previous three seasons.

Football – Otterbein promoted offensive coordinator Tim Doup to head coach. Doup had been the offensive coordinator for nine seasons.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Wentworth Institute named Helena Iaquinta head women’s lacrosse coach. Iaquinta served as co-head coach for the club team last season as it transitions to varsity status.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Concordia (Texas) hired Myranda Sanders as its new head women’s soccer coach. Sanders spent the last two seasons as an assistant at Mississippi State … Providence chose Craig Stewart as its new head men’s soccer coach. Stewart was Franklin Pierce’s head coach for the last three seasons.

NCAA committee vacancies

Division II

The NCAA is soliciting nominations for a September 1, 2012, vacancy on the Division II Championships Committee. There are no restrictions on this appointment. Preference will be given to nominees from the South Central region. Preference will also be given to individuals with sport committee or regional advisory committee experience. The deadline for submitting nomination materials is June 29, 2012. Nominations must be submitted online (access code: membership2 – password: service).

Division III

The NCAA is soliciting nominations for a July 2012 vacancy on the Division III Membership Committee. The appointee will replace Marybeth Lennox, Green Mountain College, who will resign from the committee at that time. The appointee must be a female.  The deadline for submitting nomination materials is June 29, 2012. Nominations must be submitted online (access code: committee3 – password: 2006).
