Ray Lopes

Washington State hired Ray Lopes as an assistant men’s basketball coach. Lopes previously served on the staff at Idaho the last four seasons. Prior to that, he spent the 1993-94 campaign with the Cougars, coached at Oklahoma from 1994-2002, was the head coach at Fresno State for three years and coached in the NBA D-League.

Other transactions

Associate athletics director – Wingate appointed Michelle Caddigan as its associate athletics director for internal operations. Caddigan, who is the institution’s softball coach, will remain in the position until it is filled.

Coaches

Men’s basketball – Otterbein named Todd Adrian head men’s basketball coach. Adrian comes from Edgewood, where he was the head coach since 2006.

Men’s basketball assistants – College of Charleston added Ryan Freeberg and Amir Abdur-Rahim to its men’s basketball coaching staff as assistants.

Women’s basketball – UC Irvine promoted Doug Oliver from assistant to head women’s basketball coach. Oliver began working as an assistant with the women’s program last season after spending two years as a men’s assistant with the Anteaters.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse – James Madison elevated Katie Linnertz from assistant to associate head women’s lacrosse coach. Linnertz joined the program in 2010 … Provisional NCAA Division II member Young Harris chose Katie Ilott as the institution’s first head women’s lacrosse coach. Ilott was an assistant at Mercyhurst the last two seasons.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Buffalo head men’s soccer coach John Astudillo announced his retirement. Astudillo spent 22 years leading the program … Mikki Denney Wright stepped down from her role as Minnesota’s head women’s soccer coach. Denny Wright had been with the program since 2004 … New Haven hired Roy Fink as its new head men’s soccer coach. Fink spent the last four seasons as an assistant at Massachusetts and has over eight years of coaching experience overall.

Staff

Marketing – Western Illinois named Kelsey Homewood director of marketing/promotions. She comes from Winona State, where she was associate athletics director.

Sports information – Mount Union tabbed Mike Garabedian as its assistant sports information director. Garabedian recently graduated from Denison.

Ticketing – George Washington hired Shelli Anderson as its director of ticket sales and revenue.

Conferences

The Presidents’ Athletic Conference appointed Kevin Fenstermacher as its assistant commissioner/director of communications. Fenstermacher had been associate director of athletics at Thiel since 2010.

Deaths

Former West Virginia head football coach Bill Stewart died from an apparent heart attack at the age of 59. He coached the Mountaineers from 2008-2010.
