Brad Rzyczycki

Gannon chose Brad Rzyczycki to lead its football program as head coach. Rzyczycki had been the program’s interim head coach since February, when Jim Kiernan resigned. Rzyczycki was assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for five previous seasons with Gannon.

Other transactions

Assistant athletics directors – Oakland elevated Adrian Kowal, Gordie Lindsay, Scott MacDonald, and Elisabeth Putnam to assistant athletics directors.

Coaches

Men’s basketball – Swarthmore selected Landry Kosmalski as its new head men’s basketball coach. Kosmalski comes from Davidson, where he was an assistant.

Women’s basketball – Arkansas-Pine Bluff named Nate Kilbert head women’s basketball coach. Kilbert coached the last 11 seasons at Mississippi Valley State … Saint Louis tabbed Lisa Stone as its new head women’s basketball coach. Stone most recently spent 2003-11 as Wisconsin’s head coach … Barbara Nelson resigned from her role as Wingate’s head women’s basketball coach after five seasons.

Women’s basketball assistants – St. John’s (New York) hired Angel Elderkin as an assistant women’s basketball coach. Elderkin has 13 years of coaching experience, with stops at LSU, Virginia, Tennessee, Siena and East Tennessee State … Tennessee added Mike Beaumont to its women’s basketball coaching staff as director of basketball operations. Beaumont had worked at Ole Miss as assistant athletics director for football operations since 2008.

Men’s and women’s gymnastics – Georgia head women’s gymnastics coach Jay Clark resigned after three seasons at the helm. Clark spent another 17 years as an assistant with the program.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Ryan Souders is Calvin’s new head men’s soccer coach. Souders spent the last two seasons as an assistant at Davidson.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – Florida Tech elevated Amy O’Brien to head women’s volleyball coach. O’Brien held the role in an interim capacity since earlier this spring and was an assistant with the team the last two seasons.

Conferences

John Marinatto stepped down as the Big East Conference’s commissioner. Marinatto held the role since 2009. Joseph A. Bailey III takes over on an interim basis … Conference USA announced the addition of Charlotte, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, North Texas and UTSA. Each school will begin competition in all sports in 2013, with Charlotte beginning in football in 2015 … San Jose State and Utah State are joining the Mountain West Conference on July 1, 2013.

NCAA committee vacancies

The NCAA is soliciting nominations for a June 2012 vacancy on the Division III Nominating Committee. The appointee will replace Christyn Abaray, Swarthmore, who resigned from the committee. There are no restrictions on this appointment. The deadline for submitting nomination materials is May 18. Nominations must be submitted online (access code: committee3 – password: 2006).
