Approximately 60 NCAA student-athletes from surrounding NCAA member institutions and national office staff will celebrate National Student-Athlete Day, in conjunction with the 4th annual NCAA Membership & Student-Athlete Affairs Community Day, on Tuesday, March 27. Activities begin at the NCAA Hall of Champions at 10 a.m.

National Student-Athlete Day is recognized nationally on April 6, but is celebrated on and around that day at NCAA colleges and universities.   National Student-Athlete Day recognizes the accomplishments of student-athletes nationwide who excel in the classroom, on the playing fields and in their communities.  The day was created by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports and the Northeastern University Center for the Study of Sport in Society, with partnership from the NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations.

The day will serve as an opportunity for the NCAA staff to recognize the accomplishments of NCAA student-athletes in the state of Indiana who have excelled academically, athletically and in their communities. Student-athletes attending represent Anderson University, Ball State University, Butler University, DePauw University, Franklin College, Indiana University – Bloomington, Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis, Purdue University, University of Evansville, University of Indianapolis, University of Notre Dame and University of Southern Indiana.

The National Student-Athlete Day program will begin at the NCAA Hall of Champions with opening remarks from an NCAA staff member.  Student-athletes will then have the opportunity to partake in a professional development session that focuses on identifying and living your core values daily  before touring the new NCAA expansion building.

Student-athletes will spend the afternoon participating in a community engagement activity making no-sew fleece blankets along with NCAA staff members which will be donated to the Julian Center, a unique nonprofit agency providing counseling, safe shelter, case management, advocacy, and education for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other life crises.

Robert Vowels, NCAA vice-president of student-athlete affairs, will bring the National Student-Athlete Day and MSAA Community Day program to a close.
