The Record

South Dakota chose Amy Williams as head women’s basketball coach to replace Ryun Williams, who resigned to become the head coach at Colorado State in May. Williams, a 1998 Nebraska graduate, has been an assistant coach at the Division I level, including serving as the top assistant/recruiting coordinator at Oklahoma State from 2001 to 2005, and holding the same position at Tulsa from 2005 to 2007. For the past five seasons, she has been the head coach at Rogers State (Okla.).

Coaches

Women’s basketball – Eastern Illinois promoted assistant coach Lee Buchanan to head coach. Buchanan came to Eastern Illinois in 2007. Prior stops include having been the head coach at Missouri St. Louis (2003-07) and Francis Marion (1998-02) … Annette Reiter, a 20-year coaching veteran, is the new head coach at Penn State Abington. Reiter previously was an assistant coach at Rowan for three years …

Women’s basketball assistants – Lynn added Kenny Anderson as assistant coach. Anderson joins the Fighting Knights after coaching at the high-school level.

Football assistants – Newberry added Deke Herrin as the wide receivers coach for the 2012 season. Herrin comes to Newberry after four seasons as the passing game coordinator at Division III Birmingham-Southern College.

Men’s and women’s volleyballFernanda Nelson has been named Florida Atlantic’s head women’s coach. This is Nelson’s first head coaching position after being an assistant at Florida Gulf Coast for the last four seasons. She also was an assistant with Florida Gulf Coast’s inaugural sand volleyball team.

Men’s and women’s volleyball assistants – Winthrop picked Cindi Miller, a two-time first team All-Big South Conference player at UNC Asheville, as an assistant coach.

Miscellaneous

iHigh.com, the digital television network for high school sports and youth activities, hired David Bertram as its executive vice president of field operations. Bertram previously was with IMG College, where he served as vice president for NCAA partnerships and national properties.

NCAA committee vacancies

The NCAA is soliciting nominations for an immediate vacancy on the Division I Women’s Basketball Issues Committee – staff contact: Lynn Holzman. The appointee will replace Mary Taylor-Cowles, formerly of Western Kentucky University. The appointee must be from the FBS and may be a coach or administrator. The deadline for submitting nomination materials is June 29. Nominations must be submitted online (Division I access code: conferenceonly1; Division I password: 1906).

The NCAA also is soliciting nominations for the following Sept. 1, 2012, Division III committee vacancies. The deadline for submitting nomination materials is July 13.  Nominations must be submitted online (Division III access code: committee3; Division III password: 2006).
