Mike Iuzzolino joined the Canisius men’s basketball staff as the director of basketball operations. Iuzzolino joins the Golden Griffins’ staff after serving as the associate head men’s basketball coach at Saint Vincent for the last three season. He brings more than a decade of playing experience to his new position after a career in the NBA and internationally.

Other transactions

Athletics directors – Lamar hired Jason Henderson as director of athletics. He joined the Lamar staff in 2006 as the compliance coordinator and served as the associated AD for compliance from 2007 to 2011 … Associate athletics directors – Western Illinois hired Matt Tanney as associate athletics director. He previously served as the director of compliance at Oklahoma … Wayne Statenamed Nicole Blaszczyk as an assistant athletics director for marketing and promotions. She is a 2011 graduate of the university … Assistant athletics directors Mark Atuaia was hired as the assistant AD for student services at Brigham Young. Prior to joining the athletics department, Atuaia served as the assistant to the dean of student life at the university.

Coaches

Baseball – Kalamazoo introduced Mike Ott as head coach. He spent the last eight years coaching at the high school level … Oral Roberts named Ryan Folmar as the school’s ninth head coach in program history. He spent the last nine seasons with the Golden Eagles as an assistant coach … Chris Pollard, the 2012 Southern Conference Coach of the Year, was named the head coach at Duke. He previously guided Appalachian State to six consecutive 30-win seasons … Washington Collegehired Travis Turgeon as head baseball coach. He replaces Al Streelman who retired at the end of the 2012 season … Aaron Rembert was been promoted to head baseball coach at Mars Hill. He previously served the program’s baseball coach.

Women’s basketball Paula Buscher was hired as the head coach at Southern Illinois Edwardsville. She spent the last 12 seasons at the helm of the women’s basketball program at Bradley … Former Indiana head coach Felisha Legette-Jack was named the head women’s coach at Buffalo. Legette-Jack, a New York native, is the 12th head coach in program history … Ferris State hired Colleen Lamoreaux-Tate as head coach. She spent the last seven years coaching at the high school level.

Women’s basketball assistants – Florida Southern has named Bryce Currie assistant women’s basketball coach.  He has been on the University of Nebraska women’s basketball staff as a graduate assistant the past two seasons.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Cincinnati designated former Duquesne assistant lacrosse coach Gina Oliver as head coach of the Bearcats program. Oliver is a current member of the United States Women’s National Team.

Softball – Former Northwest Nazarene assistant baseball coach Rich Wagner was named the school’s head softball coach. Wagner is a graduate of Northwest Nazarene and had a four-year baseball career as a Crusader … Lincoln Memorial hired Natalie Layden as head softball coach. Layden spent the last three seasons as an assistant softball coach at Wingate … Todd Buckingham was named the head coach at Saginaw Valley State after six seasons coaching at the NAIA level.

Men’s and women’s tennis George Husack, the 2012 ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year, was hired as the head men’s tennis coach at Alabama. He comes to the Crimson Tide after spending the last three seasons as an associate head coach at Southern California … UC Santa Barbara announced the hiring of Simon Thibodeau as head women’s coach. He is a six-time Western Athletic Conference coach of the year.

Conferences

High Point AD Craig Keilitz waselected chair of the Big South Conference's Council of Athletic Directors.  He was recently named to the NCAA Division I Championship/Sports Management Cabinet.

The Southern Athletic Association named Hoyt Young as its first assistant commissioner. He joins the SAA after seven years at Oglethorpe, the last three of which he served as associate athletics director for media relations.

The Patriot League welcomes Boston U. as a member of the conference beginning on July 1, 2013. The school will join eight other institutions including Army and Navy as full members of the Patriot League. 

Sports sponsorship

Augusta State announced it will add outdoor men’s and women’s track and field in the fall of 2012. With the addition, the Jaguars will now offer 13 varsity sports.
