Xavier Richardson

Texas-Pan American head track and field and cross country coach Dave Hartman resigned to accept an assistant position at Lamar. Assistant coach Xavier Richardson will take over on an interim basis for the indoor and outdoor programs in the spring of 2012. Richardson is in his third year with the Broncs.

Other transactions

Athletics directors – Louise McCleary, athletics director at Elms, has been hired as Director of Division III governance at the NCAA national office. McCleary had been the AD at Elms since 2002 and has 20 years of experience in athletics administration.

Coaches

Football – Washington and Lee head football coach Frank Miriello announced his retirement. Miriello has been with the university for 26 years and will finish out the current term as an instructor of physical education.

Football assistants – Maryland hired Brian Stewart as its defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. Stewart was most recently the defensive coordinator at Houston and has prior coaching experience in the NFL … Wisconsin chose Matt Canada as its offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Canada held the same role last season at Northern Illinois and spent seven seasons at Indiana before that.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Calvin named Joel Kamstra its first head men’s varsity lacrosse coach. An assistant with the men’s club program the past two years, Kamstra will lead the club team this spring before the Knights make the transition for the 2012-13 academic year.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – Reed Sunahara, Cincinnati’s head women’s volleyball coach, resigned after 12 seasons at the helm.
