Adrien Harraway

Adrien Harraway has been elevated to associate athletics director for academic affairs at Virginia. Harraway was the assistant athletics director for academic affairs for football at Virginia since 2010. He started with the Cavaliers’ academic affairs department in 2005.

Other transactions

Athletics directors – Depauw named Stefanie Baker-Watson director of athletics and recreational sports. Baker-Watson was the assistant athletic director at North Central (Illinois).

Coaches

Men’s basketball – Auburn signed head men’s basketball coach Tony Barbee to a contract through June 30, 2017. Barbee is in his second season as the Tigers’ head coach … Morgan State head basketball coach Todd Bozeman has been suspended indefinitely … Western Kentucky relieved Ken McDonald of his duties as its head men’s basketball coach. This was McDonald’s ninth season with the program as an assistant or head coach. Ray Harper will take over on an interim basis.

Field hockey – Goucher tabbed Megan Williams as its new head field hockey coach. Williams spent the last two seasons as an assistant at Virginia Wesleyan

Football – Carleton appointed Bob Pagel interim head coach. The squad’s associate head coach and defensive coordinator takes over for Kurt Ramler, who resigned last week … Penn State chose Bill O’Brien to lead its football program as head coach. O’Brien was most recently the offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots and has previous college experience at Brown, Georgia Tech, Maryland and Duke.

Football assistants – Arkansas State tabbed Keith Patterson as its defensive coordinator and named J.B. Grimes offensive line coach … Brian Overton is East Carolina’s new director of football operations. Overton was previously a football operations assistant at North Carolina for three years … Scott Vestal and Adam Sitter joined Kansas’ football staff as director of high school relations and assistant director of football operations, respectively … South Alabama added Robert Matthews to its coaching staff as offensive coordinator. Matthews was the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator at Southern Mississippi … Southern Mississippi hired Steve Buckley as assistant head coach and running backs coach, Rickey Bustle as offensive coordinator and Tommy West as defensive coordinator. Additionally, the Golden Eagles added defensive line coach Lorenzo Constantini, secondary coach Maurice Drayton, wide receiver coach Broderick Fobbs and offensive line coach Tucker Peavey.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – New Jersey City appointed Kevin Rodgers head men’s volleyball coach. Rodgers has been the women’s head coach for the Gothic Knights and an assistant with the men’s squad.

Staff

Communications – Penn State-Abington hired Jeff Dobbin as the institution’s first full-time sports information director. Dobbin previously worked in video production and webcasting at St. John Fisher.

Conferences

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced the addition of Jacksonville as an associate member of the conference in men’s and women’s rowing. Jacksonville will begin competition in the 2012 season … The National Collegiate Hockey Conference hired Jim Scherr as its commissioner. Scherr was most recently the CEO of the U.S. Olympic Committee from 2003-09.

NCAA Committee Vacancies

The NCAA is soliciting nominations for the following committee vacancies. The deadline for submitting nomination materials is February 10, 2012. Nominations must be submitted online (access code: committee3 – password: 2006).

Division III Women’s Soccer Committee – One immediate vacancy. The appointee will replace Jonathan Harper, Little East Conference, who resigned from the committee. The appointee must be an athletics administrator from the New England region. One September 2012 vacancy. The appointee must be an administrator from the Central region

Division III Women’s Tennis Committee – One immediate vacancy. The appointee will replace Ann Lebedeff, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, who resigned from the committee. The appointee must be from the West region and may be a coach or administrator.
