Vassar chose Marc Graham to lead its men’s lacrosse program as head coach. Graham was most recently the head men’s lacrosse coach at Defiance. Prior to that, Graham was the defensive coordinator at Trinity (Connecticut) for five seasons. He also spent 11 seasons coaching football, women’s basketball and men’s lacrosse at the high school level in Connecticut.

Coaches

Men’s basketball – Maine extended the contract of head men’s basketball coach Ted Woodward through the 2015 season. Woodward is in his eighth season as the Black Bears’ coach.

Football – Akron chose Terry Bowden to lead its football program as head coach. Bowden has previously been a head coach at Salem, Samford, Auburn and North Alabama … Houston hired Tony Levine as its head football coach. Levine, formerly the Cougars’ assistant head coach and special teams coordinator, served as interim head coach when Kevin Sumlin left for Texas A&M … Virginia extended the contract of head football coach Mike London by two years through 2016. London just completed his second year as the Cavaliers’ head coach … Pittsburgh named Paul Chryst head football coach. Chryst comes from Wisconsin, where he was the offensive coordinator in 2002 and from 2005-11 … Western Carolina hired Mark Speir as its new head football coach. Speir spent the past nine seasons at Appalachian State in various assistant roles.

 

Football assistants – Columbia tabbed Ben McDaniels as its offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach and hired Kevin Lempa as its defensive coordinator. Ed Argast, Aaron Smith, Alvin Smith, Chad Nice and Gordie Sammis round out the Lions’ coaching staff … Mike Locksley is returning to Maryland as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Locksley was with the Terrapins from 1998-02 and was most recently the head coach at New Mexico … Nebraska promoted John Papuchis from defensive line coach to defensive coordinator. Rick Kaczenski will takes over Papuchis’ former role … Notre Dame named defensive coordinator Bob Diaco assistant head coach, moved Chuck Martin from safeties coach to offensive coordinator, promoted Kerry Cooks to co-defensive coordinator and elevated Scott Booker from offensive intern to a full-time assistant position … Ohio State selected Zach Smith as its wide receivers coach. Smith was most recently Temple’s wide receivers and special teams coach … Texas Tech defensive coordinator Chad Glasgow will not return next season. Glasgow spent one season with the Red Raiders … Washington relieved defensive coordinator Nick Holt, linebackers coach Mike Cox and safeties coach Jeff Mills of their duties. Justin Wilcox takes over Holt’s old role, while Peter Simon will coach the linebackers.

Women’s soccer – WPI head women’s soccer coach Stephanie Carlson will not return next season. Carlson spent 17 years in the role.

Staff

Communications – Connecticut named Phil Chardis director of athletics communications … Bob Lowe is the Liberty League’s new director of communications. Lowe was the sports information director at Greensboro from 1999-2011.

Conferences

The Great Northwest Athletic Conference hired Dave Haglund as its commissioner. Haglund was the commissioner of the NAIA’s Cascade Collegiate Conference since 2007.
