NCAA President Mark Emmert’s contract extended

The NCAA Executive Committee on Friday (Jan. 13) unanimously extended NCAA President Mark Emmert’s contract an additional two years. The addition to Emmert’s original five-year contract extends Emmert’s employment as the NCAA’s chief executive until October 2017.

“This action signals the Executive Committee’s unwavering support for Mark’s incredible vision and leadership,” said Executive Committee chair and Oregon State University president Ed Ray. “He is exactly the right person the association needs to lead the NCAA through this very important time in our history.”

Emmert became the Association’s fifth chief executive in October 2010. Prior to coming to the NCAA, Emmert had been president at his alma mater, the University of Washington since 2004 where he led the university to its standing as second among all public and private institutions in research funding with $1 billion in grants and contracts per year.  Prior to his presidency at Washington, he was chancellor at Louisiana State University from 1999 to 2004.

“I am grateful for the Executive Committee’s support during this critical period of time in intercollegiate athletics,” Emmert said. “I look forward to continuing to work with presidents, commissioners, athletics directors, coaches and other leaders as we strengthen our service to student-athletes.”
