Michelle Myers

Loyola Marymount named longtime assistant Michelle Myers head women’s soccer coach. Myers originally joined the program as an assistant in 1996. She replaces Joe Mallia, who left for an assistant position at Tennessee.

Other transactions

Athletics directors – Alcorn State appointed Patric Simon as its new athletics director. Simon comes from NAIA institution Langston, where he spent three years as AD … Angelo State athletics director Kathleen Brasfield announced her retirement, effective May 31. Brasfield pent 33 years at the institution, originally beginning in 1978 as the head women’s volleyball coach … Joy Solomen, athletics director at Rowan, is retiring. Solomen served as an athletics administrator at the university for 25 years.

Associate athletics directors – Binghamton tabbed Dennis Kalina as its senior associate athletics director. Kalina comes from Gonzaga, where he was associate athletics director for external operations … California named Ashwin Puri associate athletics director for sales, marketing and service. Puri has more than a decade of experience with the NFL and NBA … Joe Giunta is returning to Temple as its senior associate athletics director for sports administration. Giunta, who was most recently Cabrini’s director of athletics and recreation for four years, previously worked at Temple for five years.

Coaches

Men’s basketball – Nyack let go head men’s basketball coach Ted Quinn after four seasons … Northland head men’s basketball coach Rob Robinson is stepping down from his role, effective immediately. Robinson has coached in some capacity at the institution since 1994 … Gene Gifford will not be retained as Olivet’s head men’s basketball coach. Gifford coached the Comets for the last five seasons.

Women’s basketball – Steve Hancock, head women’s basketball coach at Franklin Pierce, will retire at the end of the season but remain on the staff as an assistant. Current assistant Jennifer Leedham becomes the new head coach … North Dakota promoted Travis Brewster from associate head coach to head women’s basketball coach. Brewster is in his ninth year overall with the program.

Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field – Canisius named Nate Huckle head men’s and women’s cross country coach. Huckle previously coached at the high school level.

Football – Alcorn State relieved head football coach Melvin Spears of his duties after one season at the helm. Defensive line coach Todd McDaniel takes over as interim head coach … Colby chose Jonathan Michaeles to lead its football program as head coach. Michaeles has been an assistant with the squad for the past eight seasons … Florida extended the contract of head football coach Will Muschamp by one year, keeping him with the Gators through 2016.

Football assistants – Georgia State named Kevin Corless linebackers coach. Corless spent the last nine seasons at Arkansas State … Kenyon chose Chad Walker as its offensive coordinator and Greg Jones as the new defensive coordinator … Montana hired Timm Rosenbach as its offensive coordinator. Additionally, the Grizzlies tabbed Leon Burtnett as their safeties coach … Stanford added Pete Alamar to its football coaching staff as special teams coordinator. Alamar was Fresno State’s special teams coordinator and tight ends coach the past two seasons.

Men’s and women’s golf – Marymount (Virginia) named Stephen Moskal head men’s golf coach.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Ryan Kuhn is Defiance’s first head men’s lacrosse coach. Kuhn was the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Mount Saint Vincent for the past four years

Men’s and women’s soccer – Lehman hired Amanda Popoli as the first women’s soccer coach in school history. Popoli’s coaching experience is at the high school level.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – American International named Matt Cribbin head women’s volleyball coach … California Baptist chose Branden Higa as its new head women’s volleyball coach. Higa spent the last three years as an assistant at Mississippi State … Doug Blystone is Penn State-Abington’s new head women’s volleyball coach. Blystone’s previous coaching experience is at the high school and club levels.

NCAA Committee Vacancies

The NCAA is soliciting nominations for the following committee vacancy. The deadline for submitting nomination materials is March 16, 2012. Nominations must be submitted online (DII access code: membership2 – DII password: service – DIII access code: committee3 – DIII password: 2006).

Men’s and Women’s Fencing CommitteeOne September 2012 vacancy. Any division or subdivision; Mid-Atlantic/South region; preference: administrator.

Division III

The NCAA is soliciting nominations for an immediate vacancy on the Division III Men’s Basketball Committee. The appointee will replace Chris Gage, Texas-Dallas, who has resigned from the committee. The appointee must be from the South region and may be a coach or administrator. The deadline for submitting nomination materials is March 16, 2012. Nominations must be submitted online (access code: committee3 – password: 2006).
