NCAA Hall of Champions hosts "Spirit of Competition" exhibit

The NCAA Hall of Champions is featuring a new exhibit this month with interactive learning opportunities that center on the elements of competition. The Indiana Humanities “Spirit of Competition” exhibit contains films and stories about both unknown and well-known Hoosiers.

The NCAA will host the traveling exhibit from August 29 to September 28 in the second floor gallery of the Hall of Champions. Attendees can attempt to match world-champion cyclist Major Taylor’s track speed, view a film on inventor Philo Farnsworth and even assemble John Wooden’s pyramid of success. Debate podiums, a statistical scoreboard and short film on the Larry Bird/Magic Johnson rivalry are some of the many features the exhibit offers.

“The NCAA Hall of Champions is thrilled to be one of the hosts of the ’Spirit of Competition’ exhibit,” said Kelly Dodds, assistant director of Hall of Champions and NCAA Conference Center. “It will be a great opportunity for our visitors to learn more about the role Hoosiers have played in athletics and the role we all play in competition.”

The Indiana Humanities’ program focuses on five core elements of competition: civility, rivalry, passion, innovation and failure. Participants will have a chance to celebrate and examine the role of competition through a variety of stories, artifacts and visuals.

“The NCAA Hall of Champions is the perfect place for the exhibit because the museum embodies the core elements of Spirit of Competition,” said Brandon Judkins, Indiana Humanities director of programs. “We are thrilled to offer visitors another chance to think, read and talk about how competition affects our daily lives.”
