Richard Pitino

Florida International named Richard Pitino head men’s basketball coach. Pitino spent last season as Louisville’s associate head coach under his father, Rick. Pitino also spent 2007-09 as an assistant at Louisville and was on Florida’s coaching staff from 2009-11.

Other transactions

Athletics directors – Ball State selected Bill Scholl as its director of athletics. Scholl comes from Notre Dame, where he spent more than two decades and left as deputy athletics director … Memphis named Tom Bowen director of athletics. Bowen comes from San Jose State, where he was athletics director since 2004. San Jose State appointed Marie Tuite as its interim director of athletics.

Coaches

Men’s basketball – Frankie Smith resigned from his role as Saginaw Valley State’s head men’s basketball coach. Smith spent five seasons at the helm.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving – Missouri State named Dave Collins head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach. Collins had been serving the role in an interim capacity. He has been with the program since 2007.

Milestones

Arcadia head softball coach Linda Detra won her 400th career game. Detra is in her 19th season as head coach.
