Public reprimand issued to St. Johns University (New York) mens soccer student-athlete

A public reprimand and certain penalties have been issued for former St. John’s University (New York) men’s soccer student-athlete Chris Lebo for misconduct during the 2011 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship.

Specifically, Lebo was found to have engaged in misconduct by verbally abusing and approaching a referee instead of leaving the field as ordered after committing a serious foul. In lieu of withholding his transportation expenses and championship per diem due to St. John’s serving as the host site for the game, the Division I Men’s Soccer Committee issued a fine instead.

The committee noted that Lebo would have faced a one-game NCAA championship suspension for the next NCAA tournament game opportunity if he had any remaining eligibility.

“The unsportsmanlike actions the student-athlete displayed cannot be tolerated by the men’s soccer committee,” said Al Albert, chair of the Division I Men’s Soccer Committee and associate athletic director of development at the College of William and Mary. “We believe the championship is discredited by these types of behaviors and we expect all of the student-athletes to conduct themselves in a manner befitting the championship.”
