Minnesota and head men’s ice hockey coach Don Lucia agreed to a contract extension through the 2014-15 season. Lucia is in his 13^th season as Gopher head coach. He won back-to-back national championships in 2002 and 2003.

Coaches

Baseball – San Francisco head baseball coach Nino Giarratano received a six-year contract extension. Giarratano is entering his 14^th season as head coach of the Dons.

Men’s basketball assistants – North Carolina-Wilmington chose Dante Calabria as its director of men’s basketball operations. Calabria replaces Brooks Lee, who was elevated to assistant coach … Saint Louis hired Jim Crews as an assistant men’s basketball coach. Crews has 24 years of head coaching experience, with stops at Army and Evansville.

Women’s basketball – Penn State-Abington tabbed Rick Leeman as its head women’s basketball coach. Leeman has coached at the AAU level for 17 years.

Football – Brad Smith is Chadron State’s head football coach. Smith held the position previously from 1987-2004 and is currently the institution’s athletics director.

Men’s and women’s tennis – Samford named Rahim Esmail head men’s tennis coach. Esmail spent the past four years as an assistant with the women’s team at Alabama.
