Binghamton appointed Patrick Elliott director of athletics. Elliott comes from Saint Peter’s, where he held the same title for three years. The position was vacated by James Norris, who is retiring after spending 21 years with the institution.

Other transactions

Associate athletics directors – Army chose Jason Butikofer as its associate athletics director for development. Butikofer spent the past three years working at Minnesota.

Coaches

Baseball assistants – Manhattan hired Elvys Quezada as an assistant baseball coach. Additionally, Quezada will serve as the athletic department’s operations manager.

Men’s basketball – Buffalo signed head men’s basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon to a two-year contract extension, keeping him with the program through 2015-16. Witherspoon is entering his 13th season with Buffalo.

Women’s basketball assistants – Marymount (Virginia) added former standout Maame Amponsah to its women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach. Amponsah recently finished her player career with the Saints.

Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field assistants – South Alabama added David Barnett to its track and field and cross country programs as an assistant. Barnett most recently coached at Auburn.

Men’s and women’s tennis – Auburn named Lauren Longbotham Meisner head women’s tennis coach. Meisner spent the previous five seasons as head coach at SMU.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – John Jay announced the addition of a men’s volleyball program that will begin play this academic year. Brittany Fout will coach the men’s program in addition to her duties leading the women’s team.

Staff

Athletic trainers – Rensselaer added Mizue Iwamoto, Yuri Fujioka and Chris Herrmann to its sports medicine staff as assistant athletic trainers.

Conferences

Richard R. Hannan, commissioner of the Great Northwest Conference, announced his resignation. Hannan led the conference since its inception in 2001.
