DI Board appoints four new members

Timothy White.

The Division I Board of Directors last week elected UC Riverside Chancellor Timothy White, Wright State President David Hopkins, South Carolina President Harris Pastides and Cornell President David Skorton as new members.

All four of the new members’ terms began at the end of the April 28 Board meeting and will expire in April 2015. Board members are not eligible for reappointment after the four-year term.

White was appointed to his current position at UC Riverside in July 2008. He had been president at Idaho and also held administrative positions at Oregon State. He holds degrees from California and Michigan. His academic concentration is physiology. (White also was the subject of Sunday’s episode of “Undercover Boss” on CBS.)

Hopkins began his presidency at Wright State in February 2007. He had been provost for four years before his promotion. He served in several administrative positions at Indiana State before moving to Wright State. He holds degrees from Indiana and Wooster. His research interest is exercise physiology.

David Skorton.

Pastides became South Carolina’s president Aug. 1, 2008, the first internal candidate to assume the presidency in more than 50 years. Pastides had served as vice president for research and health sciences and was a dean and professor at the institution. He holds degrees from Yale. His academic concentration is epidemiology.

Skorton was appointed to the Cornell presidency on July 1, 2006. He was previously president at Iowa, where he was a faculty member for 26 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree and a medical doctorate from Northwestern. Skorton is a board-certified cardiologist and biomedical researcher.
