Canisius adds women's rowing for 2011-12

Canisius will add women’s rowing beginning with the 2011-12 academic year. The school is searching for a full-time head coach, said Athletics Director Bill Maher.

“The strength of participation and support of rowing in the western New York community and throughout the Northeast makes this a natural fit for Canisius,” Maher said. “The sport is a wonderful addition to our athletics program, and it provides substantial participation opportunities for student-athletes.”

Rowing will be the school’s 17th sport and the ninth for women. The women’s team will compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The school’s men’s rowing team will continue to compete at the club level but will receive increased emphasis, including competing in the MAAC championships.
