Connecticut senior forward Maya Moore and senior guard Tori Hansen of West Liberty have been named Academic All-Americans of the Year for their respective divisions on the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-America Women’s Basketball teams.

The scholar-athlete squads are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Moore, the two-time Wade Trophy National Player of the Year for the No. 1-ranked Huskies, is a repeat selection as the Academic All-American of the Year in the university division, while Hansen earned the top spot in the college division.

An individualized major with a 3.7 grade-point average, Moore is the first university division women’s basketball player to repeat as Academic All-American of the Year.

Lindsey Dietz of Minnesota Duluth was named as the college division Academic All-American of the Year in 2005 and 2006.

For Moore, it is the third time that she has been named to the university division team. A repeat selection as a member of the first team, she was named to the second team as a sophomore. Named as the Most Outstanding Performer of the 2010 Women’s Final Four, Moore is the Big East Conference’s all-time scoring leader with 2,828 points in 144 career games. The 10th player in West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletics Conference history to score more than 2,000 career points, she became the Hilltoppers’ career rebounding leader on Feb. 21. She now has 868 career rebounds (as of Feb. 23).

The fifth-leading scorer in Division II, Hansen is averaging 20.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game while leading the Hilltoppers to a 22-5 record.

The five members of the university division first team have an average GPA of 3.878.
