Eric Bell

TCU chose Eric Bell to lead its women’s soccer program as head coach. Bell spent the previous six seasons at Florida State, starting as an assistant in 2006 and being promoted to associate head coach in 2008. Additionally, Bell selected Ryan Higginbotham from the Dallas Texans Soccer Club as an assistant.

Other transactions

Athletics directors – Gustavus Adolphus athletics director Al Molde announced that he will retire at the end of the current academic year. Molde has served in the role since 1997.

Coaches

Men’s basketball – Florida head men’s basketball coach Billy Donovan signed a three-year contract extension that will keep him with the Gators through the 2015-16 season. Donovan is in his 16th season at Florida.

Football – Iowa State and head football coach Paul Rhoads agreed to a new 10-year contract. This is Rhoads’ third season with the Cyclones … Missouri Southern appointed Daryl Daye as its head football coach. Daye has worked at Missouri Southern in the past as the Lions’ defensive coordinator and was most recently an assistant to head coach with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills … Olivet named Dan Pifer head football coach. Pifer was the offensive coordinator/recruiting coordinator/special teams coordinator at Trine since 2006 … Utah State extended the contract of head football coach Gary Andersen through 2017. Andersen just completed his third season at the helm of the Aggies.

Football assistants – Arizona State added Chris Thomsen, Bob Connelly, Chris Ball and Mike Norvell to its football coaching staff as assistants. Thomsen was formerly the head coach at Abilene Christian, while Connelly spent the past four seasons coaching at UTEP. Ball is a former co-defensive coordinator at Washington State and Norvell was previously at Pittsburgh with new Sun Devil head coach Todd Graham.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Texas named Angela Kelly head women’s soccer coach. Kelly comes from Tennessee, where she held the same role for 12 years.

Staff

Development – Illinois State hired Mike Murray as its director of development. Murray spent the last 25 years as a football coach at various levels.
