March of Dimes honors NCAA President Emmert

NCAA President Mark Emmert was recognized Wednesday at the 28th annual March of Dimes Sports Luncheon with the organization’s Sports Leadership Award.

Emmert was honored along with New York Yankee star Mark Teixeira, the U.S. women’s national soccer team (represented by Abby Wambach and Hope Solo) and NFL Network President Steve Bornstein. Teixeira was the Sportsman of the Year, while the soccer team was recognized as Sportswomen of the Year. Bornstein was presented with the Corporate Leadership Award.

CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus chaired the luncheon, which was co-chaired by Rick Bernstein of HBO Sports; George Bodenheimer of ESPN and ABC Sports; David Hill of Fox Sports Media Group; Mark Lazarus of NBC Sports Group; and David Levy of Turner Sales, Distribution and Sports.

Emmert became the fifth president of the NCAA in October 2010. 

Each year, March of Dimes honors the outstanding achievements of men and women in the sports industry. Past honorees include New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi; NBA Commissioner David Stern; former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue; baseball greats Mickey Mantle and Cal Ripken, Jr.; tennis legends Andre Agassi and Venus Williams; basketball Hall of Famers Patrick Ewing and Lisa Leslie; and Golfer of the Year Annika Sorenstam. 

March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health.  With chapters nationwide, March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
