Ohio State’s Willis earns WLS award

The NCAA Women’s Leadership Symposium has named Miechelle Willis as the 2011 recipient of the Dr. Claire Van Ummersen Leadership Award.

Willis, a senior associate athletic director at Ohio State, will receive her award and address attendees at next month’s Women’s Leadership Symposium Midwest in Indianapolis.

WLS is an educational program with the goal of facilitating the recruitment, retention and support of women in intercollegiate athletics.

The award honors Dr. Van Ummersen, an advocate for the enhancement of women’s roles in athletics and higher education. Recipients must represent the NAIA, NCAA and/or NJCAA and have a minimum of five years of experience in intercollegiate athletics with demonstrated leadership in promoting women and embracing diversity through leadership.
