Marquette selected Rev. Scott R. Pilarz as the university's next president. Pilarz, currently the president at Scranton, will succeed Rev. Robert A. Wild, who announced he will retire at the end of the academic year.
Other transactions
Directors of athletics – Lew Perkins, director of athletics at Kansas the past seven years, announced his retirement September 7. Sean Lester, senior associate athletics director at Kansas, was appointed interim AD.
Coaches
Men's and women's cross country and track and field – Kennesaw State selected Andy Eggerth as head coach of the men's and women's track and field programs. Eggerth was an assistant coach for the men's and women's track and field programs at Kansas State the past four seasons.
Men's and women's golf – Wisconsin-Eau Claire promoted Meghan Sobotta to head coach of the women's golf program following the resignation of John Means. Sobotta served as an assistant coach the past two seasons and was a student-athlete with the program from 2004 to 2008.
Staff
Sports information – Alex Podlogar joined the Fayetteville State staff as an assistant sports information director. Podlogar previously worked in the newspaper industry.
Conferences
The Horizon League hired Bill Potter as the director of communications. Potter has been the sports information director at IUPUI since 2006 … The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association named Robert Boerigter conference commissioner. Boerigter, most recently the director of athletics at Northwest Missouri State, succeeds Jim Johnson, who accepted the position of director of athletics at Pittsburg State.
Milestones
Anson Dorrance, the only head coach in the history of the North Carolina women's soccer program, recorded his 700th career victory September 4 when the Tar Heels defeated Tennessee, 7-2. Dorrance, the winningest coach in collegiate women's soccer history, now holds a record of 700-36-23 … Texas State women's volleyball head coach Karen Chisum won her 700th match September 7 when the Bobcats defeated Prairie View A&M, 3-0. Chisum's record now stands at 700-451-3.
