    Bruce Van De Velde was promoted to director of athletics at Louisiana Tech, where he has been deputy AD and chief operating officer since mid-2008. He previously has directed athletics programs at Iowa State and Utah State, and also has served as associate AD for football operations at Kansas State and senior associate AD for external affairs at Oklahoma. Van De Velde also has been active in NCAA governance, having served on the former Division I Championships and Competition Cabinet and Division I Football Issues Committee, among other groups.

    Other transactions

    Athletics directorRick Bowen announced his retirement at Wisconsin-River Falls, effective June 21. Bowen served as head men's basketball coach for 20 years until 2006, when he became AD.

    Assistant athletics director Melissa Mullins appointed at Augusta State, where she becomes senior woman administrator after 12 years on the school's athletics staff. She is head softball coach at the university and also has held administrative positions overseeing compliance and the CHAMPS/Life Skills program.

    Coaches

    Baseball Stephen Spillman named interim head coach at Hilbert, stepping in for Jonathan Musialowski, who was seriously injured February 27 in a car accident.

    Women's basketballTom Lochner stepped down after six season as head coach at La Salle … Bill Peters hired at Marian after seven years as head girls' coach at Ripon (Wisconsin) High School.

    Soccer – Youngstown State hired Jennifer Montgomery as assistant women's coach. She spent last season as head coach at St. Andrew's Presbyterian.

    Volleyball Kristin Consuegra selected as head women's coach at Chatham after serving as an assistant at Indiana (Pennsylvania).

    Notables

    Janna Blais, former senior associate athletics director and senior woman administrator at Bowling Green State who moved last month into the same positions at Northwestern, named administrator of the year by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
