    Tennessee-Martin named Phil McNamara head men's soccer coach. McNamara coached at Carson-Newman for the past eight seasons, taking the Eagles to the NCAA Division II tournament seven out of the eight years, including consecutive semifinals appearances. His overall record is 129-32-19.

    Other transactions

    Athletics director – Kent State selected Joel Nielsen to replace the retiring Laing Kennedy. Nielsen is currently the athletics director at South Dakota, where he led the school through reclassification from Division II to Division I. He also served as athletics director at Colorado College and in the administration at Wake Forest, Illinois State and Northern Illinois.

    Coaches

    Men's basketball assistants – Adams State tabbed Ryan Dodd. Dodd was an assistant at Cal State Northridge from 2006-09.

    Women's basketball – San Francisco released Tanya Haave after four years.

    Deaths

    Kendall Berry, a football student-athlete at Florida International, died March 25. Berry was stabbed outside the school's recreation center. Berry was 22.
