Russ Sharp, senior associate athletics director for administration and finance at West Virginia, died Wednesday after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was 52. He had served on the school's athletics staff since 1999, after serving as athletics director at Centenary. Sharp also had held positions at West Georgia and Arkansas State. He was honored by the College Athletic Business Management Association in 2008 as manager of the year and was a member of CABMA's membership committee at the time of his death.

Transactions

Women's basketball – Marc Heidorf dismissed after two seasons as head coach at Lawrence, in which his teams were 3-43. Assistant coach Dennis Nagan was named interim head coach.

Football assistants – Mike Barthelmess and Byron Abram joined the Lawrence staff. Barthelmess, a former head football coach at Principia and former interim head baseball coach at Lawrence, will be associate head coach and offensive coordinator. Abram, previously wide receivers coach at Southern Oregon, will have the same duties in his new position.

Soccer – Jeremy Bonomo resigned as head men's coach at Assumption. His teams compiled a 21-22-11 record through three seasons.
