    Ferris State Athletics Director Tom Kirinovic will retire June 30 after more than 27 years with the school and more than a decade as athletics director. Kirinovic began his career with Ferris State, his alma mater, as an athletics business manager. He also coached the softball team before moving to administration full time. He has served on several NCAA committees, including the Division II Football Committee and the Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee. Softball coach and compliance director Keri Becker will serve as interim AD until a permanent replacement is found.

    Other transactions

    Presidents and chancellors – Ronald Mason Jr., president of Jackson State, will become president at Southern U.

    Associate athletics director – Delaware selected Jake Olkkola, who spent the last two years as deputy director of parks and recreation for the town of Brunswick, Maine. Olkkola will oversee all aspects of Delaware's recreation department.

    Assistant athletics director – Indianapolis hired Kelley Kish to oversee compliance. Kish replaces Lynn Griffin, who will become athletics director at Coker.

    Coaches

    Baseball – Arizona State promoted Tim Esmay, who has been serving as interim head coach for the 2010 season. He had been an assistant with the Sun Devils for five seasons … Long Beach State hired Troy Buckley to replace the retiring Mike Weathers. Buckley was the Dirtbags pitching coach in 2010 after several seasons in the minor leagues.

    Men's basketball assistants – Air Force tabbed Drew Long, who spent the past three seasons at Colorado… St. John's (New York) named former Amateur Athletic Union administrator and high school coach Maurice Hicks director of men's basketball operations … Rutgers hired Van Macon, who spent the past nine seasons as an assistant at Hofstra, including the past three as associate head coach … Saint Michael's tabbed former St. Lawrence assistant Nick LeonardelliRaheem Waller joined the staff at Georgia State after one season at Florida A&M.

    Men's and women's golf – Arkansas State selected Josee Desbiens for its women's program. She was most recently the head coach at Oklahoma City University.

    Men's and women's lacrosse – Guilford hired Tom Carmean, former head coach at Amherst. Carmean replaces Andrew Rowe, who resigned after six seasons.

    Softball – Bonnie Jill "B.J." Ferguson will retire from coaching and return to teaching full-time in the Delaware's college of health sciences. Ferguson posted a career record of 622-583-8 in nearly 30 years with the Blue Hens … Former Birmingham-Southern assistant Kimball Cassady was named to the top spot for the Panthers. The former assistant spent the past three seasons as a high school head coach … Southern Utah hired Kyle Magnusson, former assistant and co-head coach at Utah.

    Men's and women's tennis – Rensselaer hired Jon Satkowski for its men's program. Satkowski was an assistant at Skidmore in 2009-10 and will replace the retiring Carol Pillsworth.

    Conferences

    The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference extended Richard Ensor's contract through June 30, 2013. The MAAC elected Jeffrey von Arx, president of Fairfield, to be chair of the league's council of presidents. Eugene Cornacchia, president of Saint Peter's, will be vice-chair. Ed McLaughlin, athletics director at Niagara, will chair the MAAC committee on athletics administration and Karin Torchia, associate athletics director at Rider, will serve as vice chair.

    Deaths

    Haywood Harris, the sports information director at Tennessee for nearly 50 years, died June 2. Harris graduated from Tennessee in 1951, working for several newspapers before returning to his alma mater in 1959. He was appointed sports information director by Robert Neyland in 1961, retiring in 2000. Even after his retirement, he continued to serve as executive assistant to the athletics director on a part-time basis. Harris was 80.
