Western Michigan named Billy Gernon head baseball coach. Gernon was head coach at IPFW for nine seasons and an assistant at Michigan State for two. He is the all-time winningest coach in IPFW history. Gernon was a student-athlete and student assistant coach at Indiana.
Other transactions
Associate athletics director – SMU changed Tim Leonard's title to senior associate athletics director/external affairs. Leonard had overseen development.
Assistant athletics directors – SMU named track and field and cross country coach Dave Wollman assistant athletics director/university liaison. Wollman will continue to coach and will oversee the new office of student-athlete development. SMU also promoted Kris Harris to assistant athletics director/facilities and operations. Harris will also oversee tennis and equestrian.
Coaches
Men's basketball – Mercer extended men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman's contract by two years, a move that will keep Hoffman with the Bears through 2015.
Men's basketball assistants – Fordham selected former Saint Peter's assistant John Morton. A former student-athlete at Seton Hall, Morton played in the NBA for three seasons and continued a professional career overseas until 1999.
Men's and women's golf – Bradley tabbed Mary Moan to coach its women's program. Moan coached at Yale from 2000-05 before leaving to pursue a professional career. Moan was a student-athlete at Princeton.
Staff
Facilities – SMU promoted Russell Coe to director of turf management.
