Lance Coleman, a three-time All-American sprinter during his Albion career, will advance from the assistant coach position he has held for the past 15 years to head coach of the men's track and field program. Dave Egnatuk, the head coach since 1975, will remain on the staff as an assistant coach.
Other transactions
Directors of athletics – Susan Viscomi was named the new director of athletics at Hilbert. She becomes the first woman named to the position in the school's 53-year history. Most recently, Viscomi served as associate athletics director at Hamilton, where she also was a professor of physical education and served as the senior woman administrator … Kansas Athletics Director Lew Perkins announced his retirement, effective September 4, 2011.
Coaches
Baseball – Montana State Billings released head baseball coach Chris Brown after five seasons.
Women's basketball – Janell Jones, who has accumulated 260 victories in previous stints at Mercer, UC San Diego and Oklahoma City, has been named the head women's basketball coach at Cal State Los Angeles … Marymount (Virginia) selected Ashlee Courter to replace long-time head coach Bill Finney, who retires at the end of the month. Courter played for Finney at Marymount from 1999-2003.
Women's bowling – Karen Grygiel has been named the first head women's bowling coach at Monmouth. Grygiel is a 2009 Vanderbilt graduate who helped the Commodores win a national championship in 2007.
Field hockey – Roanoke hired former Muhlenberg assistant Briana Banks as head coach of the Maroons' field hockey program. Banks was a four-year starter at Maine.
Men's and women's soccer – Brienne Smith is the new women's soccer coach at Moravian. Smith, previously an assistant at Tufts, replaces Eric Lambinus, who went to Lehigh in February.
Staff
Compliance – Mark Tschaggeny, who spent the last year as an intern at the NCAA national office, was selected as director of compliance at Utah Valley.
