    The Southern Conference hired three new staff assistants. Kristen Gay will assist with championships and operations, Calhoun Hipp will work with media relations, and Jamie Lillard will fill the new role of multimedia services assistant.

    Other transactions

    Associate directors of athletics – Presbyterian promoted interim athletics director Mike Smith to senior associate athletics director. Smith filled the interim position until Brian Reese was hired July 1.

    Coaches

    Baseball – Valparaiso signed head baseball coach Tracy Woodson to a four-year contract … Peter Hoy was named head coach at St. Lawrence. Hoy was the pitching coach for LeMoyne from 1997 to 2009.

    Baseball assistants – Presbyterian promoted Chris Edwards to pitching coach and hired Josh Davis as an assistant baseball coach. Edwards just finished his second season with the Blue Hose. Davis joins the program after three years coaching in the community college ranks.

    Men's basketball assistants – Tim Clark was hired by James Madison as the director of operations. Clark has worked with the Dukes' basketball program for the past five years as a student manager and graduate assistant.

    Women's basketball assistants – Lisa Pace was hired as an assistant coach at Long Island. Pace held the same position at Georgia State last season.

    Men's and women's cross country and track and field – Bob Macfarlane joined St. Bonaventure as the head coach of the men's and women's cross country programs. Macfarlane was a girls' cross country coach at the high school level for the past seven years … Eastern Michigan promoted John Goodridge to head coach of the men's track and field program. Goodridge worked for nine years as an assistant with the men's team and the last six months as the interim head coach.

    Men's and women's lacrosse – Saint Michaels named Ashley Hughes head coach of the women's lacrosse program. Hughes was previously an assistant coach for the women's lacrosse and women's soccer programs at Norwich.

    Men's and women's lacrosse assistants – Presbyterian appointed Krista Bentolila assistant women's lacrosse coach. Bentolila was a four-year letter-winner on the Pfeiffer lacrosse team before graduating in 2009 … Kristin Hopson returned to Delaware as an assistant coach for the women's lacrosse program. Hopson was an assistant coach for the Blue Hens during the 2008 and 2009 seasons and was most recently an assistant coach for the James Madison women's lacrosse team.

    Men's and women's soccer – Heather Cato, former Arkansas student-athlete, was named head women's soccer coach at Whitman.

    Softball – St. Peter's hired Ranae Bart as head coach. Bart was an assistant coach at Rider the past three seasons.

    Men's and women's swimming and diving assistants – Steve Jungbluth was hired as an assistant coach for the Florida men's and women's swimming and diving programs. Jungbluth was the head coach of the men's and women's swimming and diving programs at Colgate since 2003.

    Men's and women's volleyball -- Charleston Southern named Kreg Togami assistant women's volleyball coach. Togami was an assistant women's volleyball coach at The Citadel from 2001 to 05.

    Wrestling – Joe Boardwine was hired as the head coach at Campbell after a decade of coaching at the high school level.

    Deaths

    Former Eastern Illinois football player Trent Steckel died July 2 in a motorcycle accident. Steckel was a member of the Panther program from 2004 to 2007. Most recently he had just completed a cadet program as a member of the Woodstock Fire Department.
