    Lee Underwood was hired as the head coach of the men's and women's tennis programs at Edinboro. The Fighting Scot programs will resume this year for the first time since being cut after the 2002-03 season. Underwood spent the last six years coaching the men's program and four years coaching the women's program at West Virginia Wesleyan.

    Other transactions

    Presidents and chancellors – Catholic appointed John H. Garvey, who has been the dean of Boston College Law School since 1999.

    Assistant directors of athletics – Northern Arizona promoted Pam Lowie to assistant athletics director for academics. Lowie has worked as an academic coordinator and interim assistant athletics director the past three years for the Lumberjacks.

    Coaches

    Baseball – Wentworth Institute hired former players Matt Dannehoffer and Pete Oggeri as assistant coaches. Both completed their eligibility with the Leopards this past season … Houston appointed former assistant coach Todd Whitting as the program's head coach. Whitting was an assistant coach for the Cougars from 1995-2003 and spent the past seven seasons as an assistant at TCU.

    Men's basketball assistants – Connecticut hired former player Kevin Ollie as an assistant coach. Ollie, a 13-year NBA veteran, played for the Huskies from 1992-95. The Huskies also added Glen Miller as director of men's basketball operations. Miller previously coached at Pennsylvania and Brown.

    Women's basketball Emily Cummins was appointed head coach of the Hendrix women's basketball program. Cummins joins the Warriors after three years as an assistant coach with the women's team at LaGrange.

    Women's basketball assistants – Fordham hired Stephanie Tobey as an assistant coach. Tobey spent the past five seasons as the head coach of the women's basketball program at Lynchburg … Rich Fetter was named the director of women's basketball operations at Fordham. Fetter worked as a graduate assistant at Seton Hall and with the National Basketball Association before joining the Rams' staff … Austin Peay hired Jessica Grayson as an assistant coach. Grayson was a forward for the Lady Govs from 2002-04 and spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach at UT Martin … North Texas announced Margaret Richards and Jimmy Stellato as assistant coaches. Richards was the head coach at Saint Augustine's the past two seasons and Steallato was an assistant coach at Stephen F. Austin last season.

    Field hockey – Marci Lippert was named head coach at Bryn Mawr. Lippert spent the past four seasons as head field hockey coach and one year as head women's lacrosse coach at Cedar Crest.

    Football assistants – Jamel Smith, who spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant at Virginia Tech, was named the defensive line coach at Coastal Carolina.

    Men's and women's lacrosse – Fairfield extended the contract of men's lacrosse coach Andy Copelan through the 2015 season. Copelan just completed his second season as head coach of the Stags.

    Men's and women's soccer – UNC Asheville promoted Matt Kern to head coach of the men's soccer program. Kern spent the past two seasons working with both the men's and women's soccer programs as the goalkeeper coach. UNC Asheville also selected Michelle Demko as the head coach of the women's soccer program. Demko was an assistant coach for the women's soccer program at Nebraska for the past three seasons.

    Men's and women's soccer assistants – Utah State hired Trevor Wachsman as an assistant women's coach. Wachsman spent the past seven seasons as the women's head coach at Missouri Southern State.

    Softball assistants – Mount Olive named Monti Van Brunt assistant softball coach. Van Brunt spent the past six years coaching softball and baseball internationally.  

    Men's and women's swimming and diving – Rutgers hired Phil Spiniello as the head coach of the women's swimming and diving program. Spiniello was an assistant women's swimming coach the past four seasons.

    Men's and women's tennis – Jeff Kader was named the head men's tennis coach at UTSA, taking over for Oliver Trittenwein, who recently resigned. Kader previously worked as an assistant men's tennis coach at North Carolina State … Cal State L.A. hired Sandy Kriezel as head women's tennis coach. Kriezel was the head coach of both the men's and women's tennis programs for the past 12 seasons at Cal Poly Pomona … Washington and Jefferson appointed former student athlete Emily Hays as the head women's tennis coach. Hays, a 2009 graduate of the college, will also be an assistant coach for the women's basketball program.

    Wrestling – Joe Haskett was named head coach of the Army wrestling team. Haskett was the 2002 165-pound national champion at Iowa State and spent the past four years as an assistant coach at Ohio State.

    Deaths

    Mike Czerwien, a graduate assistant and former student athlete at Waynesburg, died July 6. Czerwien was a four-time all-conference selection as a defensive end. He was completing a master's degree in business administration and coaching the defensive end unit at the university.
