Illinois-Chicago head men's soccer coach John Trask was tabbed for the same post at Wisconsin. He replaces Todd Yeagley, who became head men's soccer coach at Indiana. For the past five seasons, Trask has been in charge of the program at Illinois-Chicago, guiding the Flames to three Horizon League championships and three NCAA tournament berths. He also formerly was an assistant coach with three Major League Soccer clubs and spent nine years as an assistant at Indiana.

Football – Ronnie Gage stepped down as head coach at Austin to become head football coach and athletics director at the Barbers Hill (Texas) Independent School District. Gage has been in charge of the program at Austin since 2006 … Louisiana Tech named Sonny Dykes as head coach to succeed Derek Dooley, who took over at Tennessee. Dykes has been offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Arizona since 2007 … Knox athletics director Chad Eisele assumed additional responsibilities as head football coach.

Football assistant – Youngstown State added Louie Matsakis as special teams coordinator and running backs coach. He has served in the same capacity at Kansas for the past three years and formerly completed assistant coaching stints at Texas State, Texas Tech and Capital.

Men's and women's soccer – Appalachian State hired Sarah Strickland as head women's coach. The former assistant at Alabama and  Troy has been recruiting coordinator and goalkeepers' coach at Mississippi State for the past two years.

Men's and women's tennis – Paul Huch was chosen as head women's tennis coach at Meredith. For the past eight seasons, he has been head men's and women's coach at Connecticut College and formerly spent two years in charge of the women's program at Macalester.

Men's and women's volleyball – Loyola Marymount hired Tom Black as head women's coach. For the past five years, Black has been head coach at UC San Diego and he also spent two seasons as an assistant men's coach at Southern California … Alan Segal resigned after one season as head women's coach at Eastern Illinois. Assistant coach Kate Price will serve as interim head coach.

Deaths

Former Gonzaga men's basketball coach and athletics administrator Dan Fitzgerald died on January 19. He was 67. Credited with building Gonzaga into a national basketball power, but before its current run of success, Fitzgerald was 252-171 as head coach from 1978-1981, and then from 1985-1997. He also spent four years as athletics director at the school.
