    Northern Illinois hired Dave Doeren as head coach of the football program. Doeren is in his fifth season as defensive coordinator for the Wisconsin football program and will replace head coach Jerry Kill, who accepted the head coaching vacancy at Minnesota.

    Other transactions

    Coaches

    Men's and women's cross country and track and field – Marcia Stuber resigned as head coach of the women's cross country team at Alverno after one season.

    Football – Arkansas extended the contract of head coach Bobby Petrino through the 2017 season. Petrino has led the program for the past three seasons.

    Football assistants – Oklahoma promoted assistants Josh Heupel and Jay Norvell to co-offensive coordinators. Heupel and Norvell will replace offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, who accepted the head coach position at Indiana.

    Men's and women's volleyball -- Mark Engle, head coach of the women's volleyball program at Lake Superior State, announced his retirement after 16 seasons with the program, effective in February.

    Conferences

    The West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference appointed Brent Hager as associate commissioner. Hager was most recently the sports information director at Presbyterian.
