    WPI elevated Brian Chabot to full-time head coach of the men's and women's track and field programs. Chabot is entering his third season as head coach of the programs and will assume greater responsibilities within the athletics department and in teaching.

    Other transactions

    Presidents and chancellors – Earlham President Douglas C. Bennett announced he intends to retire at the end of June 2011. Bennett has been president since 1997.

    Faculty athletics representatives -- Montavello appointed Houston Byrd as the athletics department's faculty athletics representative. Byrd has been a member of the faculty at Montavello for 15 years.

    Coaches

    Women's basketball assistants – Fordham hired Mary McConnell an assistant coach after three years as a women's basketball assistant coach at Fairleigh Dickinson.

    Men's and women's cross country and track and field – Gallaudet promoted Ben Harden from assistant coach to head coach of the men's and women's cross country programs.

    Men's and women's soccer – Christian Michner was named head coach of the women's soccer program at her alma mater College of Charleston. Michner was a soccer student-athlete at College of Charleston from 1996 to 1998 and was most recently an assistant head coach for two seasons at Illinois.

    Men's and women's soccer assistants – Lamar named Sophie Clough assistant coach of the women's soccer program. Clough was most recently a soccer student-athlete and student assistant at Oregon State.

    Softball – Kim Scavone was selected as head coach at Meredith. Scavone has previous experience as an assistant coach at Fordham and softball student-athlete at Boston College … Randolph named Caroline Cubbage head coach after her time as head coach at Concordia (Nebraska) … Missy Beseres, a former Penn State softball student-athlete and current Loyola (Illinois) assistant coach, was promoted to head coach.

    Men's and women's tennis – Jaime Campbell, head coach of the women's tennis program at UTEP, was named the men's and women's tennis coach at Randolph.

    Men's and women's volleyball – Ball State hired Corey Carlin as an assistant coach of the women's volleyball program. Carlin worked in the same position with the women's volleyball program at Eastern Kentucky the past two seasons.

    Staff

    Administrative assistant – Jenna Cosgrove was appointed administrative assistant for the women's basketball program at Fordham.

    Sports information – Pamela Flenke joined the Army communications staff as an assistant. Flenke was a communications assistant at the Big East Conference last season … Randolph selected Jamie Chagnon as its new sports information director.

    Deaths

    Former Grambling State football student-athlete Gary "Big Hands" Johnson died August 4 at the age of 57 after suffering a stroke two weeks prior. Following his time at Grambling State Johnson went on to play professionally in the National Football League from 1975 to 1985.
