    Florida A&M selected Derek Horne as the director of athletics. Horne spent the last 15 years in the athletics department at Mississippi, first as an assistant athletics director and rising to senior associate athletics director. Horne was also a basketball student-athlete at Mississippi from 1983 to 1986.

    Other transactions

    Coaches

    Men's and women's cross country and track and field – Alvernia hired Jason Kilgore as head coach of the men's and women's track and field programs. Kilgore was an assistant coach of the track and field program at Lafayette the last two seasons.

    Men's and women's cross country and track and field assistants – Kyle Cameron was hired as an assistant coach for the Marquette men's and women's cross country and track and field programs. Cameron was a graduate assistant at Southern Illinois Edwardsville last season.

    Men's and women's lacrosse assistants – Ryan Alexander returned to his alma mater St. Mary's (Maryland) as an assistant coach for the men's lacrosse program. Alexander recently completed his four-year career as a lacrosse student-athlete at the college.

    Men's and women's soccer assistants – Mount Union selected Brian Haschke and Casey Marks as assistant coaches of the men's soccer program. Haschke and Marks recently completed their careers as soccer student-athletes at Elmira and Mount Union, respectively.

    Deaths

    Former Texas A&M-Kingsville running back Johnny Bailey died Friday morning in Houston after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 43. Bailey, who set records and compiled yardage in football that stand as the best ever for a collegiate athlete, played football for the Javelinas in 1986-89 when the institution was known as Texas A&I. Bailey was drafted in 1990 by the Chicago Bears and also played with the St. Louis Rams. He later played with the Arizona Cardinals.
