    Longtime track and field announcer and statistician Scott Davis died August 18, at the age of 67 after a 13-year battle with cancer. Davis was an announcer at his alma mater UCLA for 28 years and was the voice of a number of NCAA Division I championships, including the 2010 indoor and outdoor national championship meets.

    Other transactions

    Presidents and chancellors – Lewis & Clark appointed Barry Glassner president of the university. Glassner was the executive vice provost at Southern California.

    Coaches

    Women's basketball – Melissia Patterson was hired as head coach at Hamilton. Patterson was formerly an assistant coach at the school.

    Women's basketball assistants – Winthrop named Tounisia Turner-Lewis assistant coach. Turner-Lewis was an assistant coach with the program from 2004 to 2005 and was most recently head coach of the women's basketball program at Cal State L.A.

    Men's and women's cross country and track and field – Zach Emerson was selected as head coach of the men's and women's cross country programs at New England College.  Emerson was a cross country head coach at the high school level … St. Joseph's (Maine) hired Bruce Bickford as head coach of the men's and women's cross country program. Bickford previously coached at the high school level. He succeeds Tom Dann, who resigned.

    Football – Rensselaer hired Eric Ouellette as an assistant football coach. Ouellete spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Northeastern.

    Men's and women's golf – Mickey Herron was selected as head coach of the men's golf program at Bentley.

    Men's and women's ice hockey – Williams selected Joey Lye as interim head coach of the women's ice hockey program. Lye was a former women's ice hockey and softball student-athlete with the Ephs and worked as an assistant coach with both programs last season.

    Men's and women's lacrosse – Albany promoted John Battaglino, assistant coach of the women's lacrosse program, to head coach after the resignation of Lindsey Hart.

    Men's and women's soccer assistants – Chris Miller was named assistant coach of the men's soccer program at Sage. Miller was most recently a coach in the Olympic Development Program.

    Softball – Salem appointed Scott Long the first head softball coach in school history as the program prepares to begin competition in the 2011-12 academic year. Long was previously a softball coach at the high school level.

    Men's and women's tennis – Drury named former interim head coach and graduate assistant Andreas Maroldt head coach of the men's tennis program. Maroldt was the interim head coach during the 2008-09 academic year and served as a graduate assistant last season.

    Men's and women's volleyball – Catherine Geerlings was hired as the head coach of the women's volleyball program at Agnes Scott. Geerlings previously coached at the high school level … Brigham Young elevated assistant coach Rob Neilson to interim head coach of the men's volleyball program after the departure of head coach Shawn Patchell.

    Staff

    Sports information – Stephanie Dutton was appointed interim assistant sports information director at Plattsburgh State after the resignation of Julia Hada. Dutton is a 2006 graduate of Plattsburgh State.
