    Henderson State selected former student-athlete Kale Gober as director of athletics. Gober, the development associate and assistant to the athletics director at Central Arkansas, will replace Sam Goodwin, who is retiring after 10 years at Henderson State. As a student-athlete, Gober was a three-year letter-winner with the Reddies football team.

    Coaches

    Baseball assistants – Jason Sherrer, former baseball student-athlete at Mount Olive, was named assistant coach at the college.

    Men's basketball assistants – College of Charleston named Jonathan Cremins director of men's basketball operations. Cremins was previously a coach at the high school level … Mount Olive hired Kevin Hammack and P.J. Zito as assistant coaches.

    Women's basketball assistants – Allie Turley was selected as director of women's basketball operations at Eastern Kentucky. Turley previously coached at the high school level … Felicia Autry was named an assistant coach at Mount Olive.

    Men's and women's cross country and track and field – William and Mary named Stephen Walsh head coach of the men's and women's cross country and track programs. Walsh was head coach of the men's program and assistant coach of the women's track and men's and women's cross country programs at Providence the last four years … Missouri elevated interim head men's and women's track and field coach Brett Halter to head coach. Halter is entering his 18th season with the programs.

    Men's and women's cross country and track and field assistants – Oregon hired three-time Olympian Robert Weir as an assistant track and field coach, overseeing five men's and women's throwing events. Weir previously was an assistant coach at Stanford from 1993 to 2008 … Justin Sherwood, a former track and field student athlete at Mount Olive, was named assistant coach of the men's and women's track and field program.

    Football assistants – Hobart selected Ryan Robinson and Marc Tapscott as assistant coaches. Robinson was a football student-athlete at Hobart who graduated in the spring. Tapscott previously coached at the high school level.

    Men's and women's golf – Albion selected Jordan McArleton head coach of the women's golf program. McArleton is a former golf student-athlete at Albion.

    Men's and women's swimming and diving – Heidi Voigt was named head coach of the swimming and diving programs after two seasons as an assistant coach at New Mexico State.

    Men's and women's tennis assistants – Mount Olive named Kyle Karcher assistant coach of the men's and women's tennis programs. Karcher was a student-athlete at Mount Olive and doubles partner of current men's and women's head coach Kevin Coghill in 2000 and 2001.

    Staff

    Athletic training – Mount Olive selected Ryan Neal as an assistant athletic trainer. Neal was previously a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Penn State … Lisa Cantara was named an assistant athletic trainer at Saint Rose after 13 seasons as an athletic trainer at Stony Brook.

    Compliance – Miami (Florida) hired Dan Raben and Jordan Redavid as assistant compliance directors.  Raben was previously a compliance coordinator at Ohio State and Redavid was a monitoring specialist at UAB.

    Conferences

    The Peach Belt Conference named Carl Segura director of external operations. Segura was most recently a governance intern at the NCAA … The Presidents' Athletic Conference announced new conference officers for the 2010-11 academic year.  Kenneth Smith, president of Geneva, will serve as chair of the Presidents Council. Kim Gall, director of athletics at Geneva, was named chair of the Athletic Directors Council and Senior Woman Administrators Council. Denise Murphy-Gerber, the faculty athletics representative at Geneva, was named chair of the conference's Faculty Athletics Representative Association.

    Deaths

    Former collegiate football coach Fred Remmy died August 14 at the age of 73. Remmy's coaching career spanned 40 years and included coaching positions at Washington U. in St. Louis, Brown, Northwestern and Miami (Florida).
