    Adams State named Tim Busen men's soccer coach. Busen, most recently a high school coach, replaces Adams State student Josh Nolker, who coached the team's first season last fall. Busen coached Michigan State's club team and served as an assistant with Olivet's women's program.

    Other transactions

    Athletics director – Oregon named Lorraine Davis interim athletics director. Davis retired as vice president for academic affairs. She will serve until a replacement is found for Mike Bellotti, who resigned to take a broadcasting job.

    Assistant athletics director – Buffalo promoted Jeremy Applegate to assistant athletics director for corporate sales, Bob Maxwell to assistant athletics director for facilities/capital projects and Sue Kurowski to assistant athletics director for events/facility operation. Kurowski will also serve as Buffalo's camp director.

    Coaches

    Men's basketball – Dave Dickerson resigned after five years at Tulane and a 68-84 record … Houston selected James Dickey to replace Tom Penders. Dickey last coached at Texas Tech and was an assistant at Oklahoma State.

    Women's basketball – Upper Iowa hired Carol Russell, who spent the last eight seasons as head coach at Nebraska-Kearney. Russell compiled a 164-79 record with the Lopers. She was an assistant at Texas-Pan American, Truman, Nebraska and Bradley … Elaine Elliott will take a year's leave of absence from Utah to consider retirement. Anthony Leverts, a third-year assistant, will serve as interim coach.

    Staff

    External relations – Buffalo promoted Paul Hutchings to manager of university awareness and special events.

    Facilities – Buffalo promoted Nick Titus to director of facility operations and named Doug Borsuk maintenance and logistics manager. The school also made Patty Murphy visiting team coordinator in addition to her duties as alumni arena equipment manager. Alan Bell will serve as athletics event/facility operations assistant manager and Ken Holmes will serve as athletics event/facility operations assistant.

    Deaths

    Former Goldey-Beacom men's soccer coach Milton Olazagasti died March 31. He coached from 1991-97, leading the team to an 83-35 record … Dayton volleyball student-athlete Kacie Hausfeld was killed April 1 in a plane crash with her father. Hausfeld was 21
