    Wisconsin-Oshkosh Athletics Director Allen Ackerman will retire in January 2011. Ackerman came to Wisconsin-Oshkosh from Elmhurst in 1991. During his time with the Titans, Ackerman worked with area groups to build the Oshkosh sports complex, a community sports venue. He also oversaw a variety of construction projects on campus and led the Titans to 19 Division III national titles in nine sports.

    Other transactions

    Athletics director – Tim Millerick stepped down at Austin College. David Norman, an associate athletics director, will replace him. The transition will take place between April and June. Millerick will remain as vice president for student affairs and athletics.

    Associate athletics director – Louisville promoted Eric Hammer to associate director of Olympic Sports Performance. He had been an assistant.

    Coaches

    Men's basketball – Penn selected Jerome Allen, who had been serving on an interim basis since December. Allen played basketball professionally in the NBA and Europe before retiring last year to become an assistant at Penn … Pittsburgh extended Jamie Dixon's contract another two years, keeping him at the school through 2017-18 … Jim Larranaga signed a contract extension at George Mason through 2015-16 … Louisville extended Rick Pitino's contract by three years to 2016-17 … Hofstra hired Tim Welsh, former Providence and Iona head coach. Welsh was an assistant at Florida State and Syracuse … Middle Tennessee State extended Kermit Davis' contract through 2013-14.

    Men's basketball assistants – Gonzaga selected Donny Daniels, an assistant at UCLA for the past seven years. Daniels replaces Leon Rice, who became head coach at Boise State … Central Arkansas hired Jonathan Jackson and Anthony Walker.

    Football – Pittsburgh extended Dave Wannstedt's contract through January 2015. He has been head coach of the Panthers since 2005 … Bernie Busken resigned from Western New Mexico after three years as head coach and another three years as an assistant.

    Men's and women's soccer – Stephen F. Austin named Rollins head coach Tony Amato to its women's program. Amato replaces George Van Linder, who became coach at Oklahoma.

    Men's and women's volleyball – Centenary (Louisiana) hired Jon Stenman for its women's program. Stenman was most recently head coach at Coker.

    Deaths

    Former Miami (Ohio) sports information director Dave Young died March 29. He worked with the Redhawks from 1967-91, the longest-tenured SID in school history. Young was 69… Former Grand Valley State athletics director George MacDonald died March 30. He served as athletics director for the Lakers from 1976-89. He was 87.
