Lee McKinney, who balances duties as a men's basketball coach with service as director of athletics at Fontbonne and as a member of the Division III Management Council, claimed his 800th coaching victory over the weekend.

McKinney, who plans to retire as AD in June but will continue coaching, also claimed his 325th victory as the Griffins' only coach as Fontbonne defeated Blackburn on Saturday.

His 800 victories also include 188 wins at Missouri Baptist and 287 victories as a high school coach. He is one of 25 Division III men's basketball coaches who have won 500 college games.

McKinney announced plans last fall to step down as athletics director at Fontbonne, where he played an instrumental role in establishing the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. He also will leave the Management Council following its April meeting.

He is in his 32nd season as a college coach and 22nd coach at Fontbonne, where he has led the Griffins to three Division III Men's Basketball Championship appearances.
