The winningest active coach in Division III baseball collected his 1,300th victory during the weekend.

Eastern Connecticut State's Bill Holowaty, who trails only Gordie Gillespie and Don Schaly in Division III career victories, achieved the latest milestone in a sweep Saturday of a Little East Conference doubleheader against Massachusetts-Boston.

Holowaty, who ranks 17th in victories among coaches at all levels of four-year college competition, is in his 42nd year as the Warriors' coach.

He has led Eastern Connecticut State to four Division III Baseball Championship titles and 12 regional championships. His teams have qualified for all but four Division III tournaments since the Warriors began NCAA competition in 1976.

He is only the second coach who has spent his entire career at one Division III member school to reach the 1,300-victory milestone. Gillespie, who coached at Ripon from 1996 to 2005 and also coached at Lewis, remains active at NAIA member St. Francis (Illinois), where he recently entered his 58th season with 1,816 wins.

Holowaty now is 138 wins behind Schaly, who coached all 40 of his season at Marietta.
