Patricia Thomas, director of athletics at District of Columbia, has been elected as a new member to the Division II Management Council.

She will replace Karen Soto of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, who resigned from the Council earlier this year. Thomas was elected at July's Management Council meeting, and her selection was ratified at the August 12 teleconference of the Division II Presidents Council.

Thomas has been athletics director at District of Columbia since 2008 when she became the first female African-American AD in the institution's 34-year history.

She has more than 30 years of experience in NCAA athletics. Before accepting the post at District of Columbia, Thomas served as the senior associate athletics director at Georgetown, where she was responsible for providing direct support to student-athletes and served as the sports administrator for more than 15 sports programs.

Thomas has served as a member of the NCAA Division I Championships and Competition Cabinet and the Big East Conference Executive Committee.
