Ohio Northern University wrestling coach Ron Beaschler has been named the NCAA's next wrestling secretary-rules editor. Beaschler will replace long-time rules editor Robert G. Bubb when Bubb's term expires in September 2011. Beaschler will shadow Bubb through next season to ensure a smooth transition.

Beaschler is in his 23rd year as the head wrestling coach at Ohio Northern.

"Ron's wealth of experience and knowledge on everything to do with the rules that govern the sport of wrestling will ensure that it remains strong, safe and exciting," said Derek van der Merwe, chair of the NCAA Wrestling Committee and senior associate athletics director at Central Michigan University. "He has done an amazing job supporting the NCAA Wrestling Committee during my tenure, and it will continue to be an honor to work with him in this new role."

Beaschler, who was inducted into the National Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2008, also serves as the Weight Management Program liaison to the committee. In addition, he has served as the president of the National Wrestling Coaches Association and was the chair of the NCAA Division III Wrestling Committee. He also has been the Division III representative on the NWCA executive board of directors.

"I am looking forward to the opportunity to give back to the great sport of wrestling in this role," Beaschler said. "I also look forward to learning and working with some of the best minds in the sport, such as Robert Bubb and the committee and NCAA staff members, while preparing me to enhance the student-athlete experience in wrestling."

In addition to his coaching duties at Ohio Northern, Beaschler chairs the school's department of human performance and sport sciences. He also is an assistant professor in the health and physical education department.

Beaschler graduated from Ohio Northern with degrees in management and sports management in 1986. He received his master's degree in education from Bowling Green State University in 1988. He is currently working on his Ph.D. at the University of Toledo.
