Cal State Northridge named Marcelo Leonardi interim women’s water polo head coach. He has been an assistant for the past four years, earning a share of the Big West title in 2009. He coached at the high school level for six years. He holds degrees from Whittier.

Other transactions

Presidents and chancellors – Williams selected Adam Falk, dean of Johns Hopkins school of arts and sciences, to be the school’s 17th president. Falk takes over the office on April 1. He replaces Morton Schapiro, who became Northwestern’s president earlier this year.

 Coaches

Women’s basketball – Bowling Green extended Curt Miller’s contract through June 30, 2015. Miller has compiled a 179-73 record in eight seasons with the Falcons, earning Mid-America Conference Coach of the Year honors for five consecutive years.

Football – Don Patterson resigned from Western Illinois, citing health concerns. Patterson was diagnosed with cancer in July 2008 and missed much of the 2008 season. He will continue in the athletics department. The Leathernecks named offensive coordinator Mark Hendrickson acting head coach.

Men’s and women’s tennis assistants – Delaware hired Vince Maximo and Brendan Heron. Maximo comes to the Blue Hens from the banking industry. Heron, a 2008 graduate of Delaware, was an instructor in several Philadelphia summer programs.
