North Carolina-Greensboro Director of Athletics Nelson Bobb announced his resignation after directing Spartan athletics for more than a quarter of a century. Bobb joined UNCG in July 1983 when eight teams competed in the NCAA’s Division III. Before his arrival, the department was led by a men’s and women’s coordinator of athletics. The university authorized the move to Division I in February 1987, and Bobb guided the program through the transition in competitive status in only five years, going from Division III to Division I, with a brief stint at Division II.

Other transactions

Presidents and chancellors – Russell Osgood announced that he will step down as president of Grinnell in July 2010. Osgood has been president at Grinnell since 1998.

Coaches

Men’s basketball – Scott McClary was named men’s basketball coach at Muhlenberg … Wheaton (Illinois) hired Mike Schauer as men’s basketball coach.

Men’s and women’s tennis – Daron Montgomery has decided to step down after nine years as Detroit Mercy’s women’s tennis coach.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – UC Riverside hired Ron Larsen, the assistant coach for the 2008 gold medal-winning U.S. Men’s Olympic Volleyball Team, as the next women’s volleyball coach.

Staff

Marketing – Oregon State named Ian Frost marketing coordinator.

Deaths

St. Augustine’s assistant football coach Antonio Owens died Friday after a long illness. Owens was the running backs coach since 2006.
